About the LMS PTA
Welcome:
Longfellow is a wonderful community where inspiring Excellence is a tradition. Congratulations to the entire Longfellow community for winning the 2019 Governor’s Award for Educational Excellence. Longfellow is one of only eight schools in Virginia to receive this honor for 2019. We have earned this highest honor because the entire community, including our PTA parents, had a role in this achievement.
We are so grateful for the strong partnership between the school and the LMS PTA. To support this tradition of Excellence, dedicated volunteers support students and teachers inside and outside the classroom.
This partnership includes:
Funding provided by the PTA goes directly to the students and the teachers. This support benefits educational initiatives and provides improvements to our classroom.

- Host hospitality events for our teachers though out the year
- Teacher appreciation
- Heritage Night
- Lancers at the movies
- 8th Grade Party
- New Family Coffee
- Provides speakers to inform on issues that impact our community

PTA funding has provided:
- New Technology - Interactive smart boards & projectors to enhance the classroom experience and a computer cart for a classroom mobile lab
- First disbursement of funds toward new technology by the first of the year
- Grants and stipends for teachers
- We have disbursed stipends for $17,600 to 89 teachers
- $12,000 in teacher grants have been awarded
- Our teachers greatly appreciate this stipend and utilize it to enhance our children's classroom experiences.
- Grants will be disbursed by the first of the year
- Classroom supplies - Supported throughout the year
- Assignment books/Textbooks - Supported throughout the year
- Teacher appreciation events -Supported throughout the year
- Teacher and staff development programs - Supported throughout the year
- Support for students in need - Supported throughout the year
