Winter Weather Cancellations
In the event of an early school closing or school cancellation, all
after-school activities and clubs are cancelled at Longfellow (and all other
FCPS schools). If school closes early, students will be sent home on their
regular bus.
To receive e-mails or text messages of school closings and delays, sign up
for the Keep in Touch e-mail system (click Keep In Touch on the left).
Radio, television and radio/TV news websites also carry up-to-date school
closing information, as does the
Fairfax County
Public Schools website.
We recommend you develop a plan with your child to cover emergency
situations--how your child can access spare keys, neighbors they could stay
with, how to contact you, the importance of contacting you when they arrive
home, etc. In the event of an early closing, students can call parents from
school telephones in the office and classrooms (with teacher approval).
Proper planning for emergencies will help to make both you and your child
feel safe and prepared to handle these situations.
Please Observe Parking/Pickup Rules
Parents who MUST pick their children up after school may not
enter the parking lot until after the busses leave, no early than 2:35 pm. Cars
also cannot be parked except in marked parking spaces (not along curbs).
Parking and student pickup at Longfellow is very tight. Please
have your child walk or take the bus home as often as possible!
