Renovation Update
This page will have the latest renovation updates that have been
shared with the PTA Board.
Renovation Committee Parent Members:
Betty Ende,
Tom Nolls and
Wilma Bower
Timing:
Construction starts in late 2009 and will be completed by spring of 2012.
There will be approximately 30 months of construction.
Scope of work:
Virtually every inch of the school will be redone and refurbished,
with the focus being to reallocate existing space to make it more functional
while adding necessary space to eliminate the need for modular classrooms
and increase instructional space to the 2007 Fairfax County Construction
Department’s educational specifications.
The
entire school infrastructure will be replaced to include:
technology, heating, air conditioning, upgraded electrical work,
flooring, wall tile, lockers and all new windows.
In addition, all bathrooms and locker rooms will be renovated.
New
space will be added to the front of the building to house the
administration. The
library/media center will be relocated to the center of the school.
There will be a new wing of classrooms adjoining the science and gym
hallways on the first floor that will eliminate the need for the modular
unit. There will also be
significant new storage facilities under this new wing, opening to the track
area. There will be space added
to the rear of the school to enlarge the music classrooms and practice
areas. While the cafeteria will
remain roughly the same size, there will be a renovated stage area that will
have storage and rehearsal space.
Lastly, the Little Theatre will be turned into a two-story space and
become the art lab.
For questions about the renovation, please contact any parent member of the
renovation committee (listed above)
